What a Friday looks like

Doors open at 3:30. Pick up where you left off, start something new, or grab a project from the binder. Most of the 90 minutes is hands in clay.

I'm working in the studio too, so help is right there when you want it, and nobody's hovering when you don't. It's a good way to end the week: make something with your hands and leave the school week behind.

Not sure what to make?

There's a binder of step-by-step projects you can do on your own: mugs, plates, bowls, spoon rests, trinket dishes. There are glaze recipes too, so you can mix and test your own colors. Or bring your own idea and we'll figure out how to build it.

What's in the studio

The electric kiln in the studio
The kiln, where every piece gets fired.
  • Clay and tools. Slabs, coils, pinch pots, and everything in between.
  • A glaze lab. Mix your own colors from real recipes and test them.
  • A kiln. Every piece gets fired, ready to take home in a week or two.

Want to invent with 3D printing and wood too? Inventor Lab runs on Tuesdays: six weeks, one invention, start to finish.

A safe place to make things

The kiln is adult-only. Cleanup is wet, not a broom, so clay dust stays down. Nobody's work gets critiqued, and there's a lounge spot for anyone who needs a break.

Closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get messy. That's all they need to bring.

Questions parents ask

Does my teen need experience?

No. The binder projects start from scratch, and I show each technique the first time it's needed.

How is this different from Inventor Lab?

Inventor Lab is a six-week class with a goal: invent something for a real person and build it, with clay, 3D printing, and wood. Clay Club is open time to make whatever you want in clay, any Friday.

What if they miss a Friday?

No problem. The monthly plan covers that month's Fridays, so come when you can.

Can they take their work home?

Yes. Every piece gets fired and is ready to take home a week or two later.

Where is it?

My home studio in South Davis: a two-car garage set up with a kiln and a glaze lab. I'll send the address after you sign up.

How do I cancel?

Anytime, before your next monthly charge. Just text or email me.
